Staying at the luxurious Tiwi Island Retreat, you can travel to Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island for the unique ‘Tiwi by Design’ tour to be immersed in the local Indigenous culture that is full of vibrant colours. Guests take the ferry from Darwin to Wurrumiyanga and then travel across Bathurst Island by 4WD to meet a sea transfer, heading over to the remote beachfront accommodation – Tiwi Island Retreat. Guests can fish from the beach, relax by the pool, experience the amazing Tiwi sunset and enjoy canapes on the beach.
On day two of the escape, guests will enjoy a tropical breakfast and transfer to Wurrumiyanga to be immersed in the unique and colourful Tiwi art and culture. Guests can participate in a smoking ceremony, meet the local Tiwi Islands artists, be guided on a walking tour through the Patakitjiyali Museum and Mission Precinct, and learn about the Tiwi Creation story, the islands’ involvement in World War II, and the islands’ famous and celebrated football players. They’ll see artwork destined for international exhibitions, and have the chance to purchase their own authentic Tiwi Islands piece, or even throw their hands into creating their very own screen print as a take-home souvenir.
