Louis XIII Cognac takes another step on its quest for ‘Sustainable Exception’ with a redesigned coffret made from 100 percent cellulosic materials.

When we think of luxury spirits, we don’t tend to think of environmental sensitivity – after all, luxury products tend to enjoy lavish packaging and travel great distances to reach their affluent markets. However, one cognac house is making a shift in the right direction.

Part of an effort to perpetuate the Louis XIII legacy into the future while leaving as little trace as possible on its precious terroir and on the rest of the world, Louis XIII has released a new redesigned coffret that preserves key elements of Louis XIII heritage, whilst being made entirely from cellulosic materials.

Louis XIII Cognac takes another step on its quest for ‘Sustainable Exception’ with a redesigned coffret made from 100 percent cellulosic materials.

The result of two years of development, the visionary redesign artfully reworks the balance between function, emotion and sustainability, and allows the cognac producer to reduce CO2 emissions relating to the packaging by 57 percent, with each coffret being 24 percent lighter and 14 percent smaller than the previous design and therefore facilitating less impactful shipping and transport.

By carefully reconsidering how each hand-crafted decanter is treasured, shared and presented, the luxury brand has not only achieved significant improvements with regards to sustainability, but also created a deeper emotional connection with Louis XIII Cognac – with a reimagined opening experience. In a moment of wonder, the decanter is discovered as light pours through the coffret’s circular opening, radiating through its walls and revealing the fascinating mahogany hues of the spirit within.

The redesigned packaging was launched in Louis XIII boutiques worldwide, and will be deployed globally over the following months.
