Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, the brand’s second hotel in London, has opened on historic Hanover Square.
Located in a vibrant corner of the British capital, where fashion, art, business and culture intersect, the sleek boutique property comprises just 50 guestrooms and suites, as well as 77 private residences, award-winning chef Akira Back’s first London restaurant, two bars and a beautiful spa.

Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, who has created a unique Vierendeel structured building, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is the first new build in the precinct for a decade and brings a modern architectural approach to one of London’s most storied squares.
Hidden away behind an elegant yet contemporary burnt red brick façade inspired by the Georgian terraces that surround the hotel, the new MO’s guest rooms and suites, crafted by Britain-based Studio Indigo, seamlessly blend the brand’s Asian heritage with locally inspired elements, with every guest room imagined as a jewellery box, with a palette that includes a rich emerald green, regal maroon and tranquil turquoise.

Each space features fine timbers, marbles, soft fabrics and carpets, bespoke lighting and furniture complemented by metallic finishes in brass, bronze and gold and House of de Gournay hand-painted silk wallpaper.
The hotel’s hospitality spaces are the creation of Tokyo-based design agency Curiosity. Be sure to pop by the Akira Back restaurant, home to some of the chef’s most popular signature dishes, or the 14-seater chef’s table Dosa for the ultimate culinary theatre experience, before exploring the local gin scene at ABar Lounge (ABAR Rooftop will open later in the year), or taking a dip in the striking 25-metre indoor swimming pool of the spa.
