Hotel Review: The Air Up Here

One of the city’s most iconic hotels, The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong combines stellar cityscape vistas with a proud tradition of contemporary hospitality.

In a city famed for its iconic five-star hotels, few offer the unique combination of vertiginous views and world-class service of Hong Kong’s towering Ritz-Carlton.

Is it a city hotel?

You could say this is the city hotel. Perched atop the International Commerce Centre (ICC), the tallest skyscraper in a city famed for its vertiginous towers, The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong offers the best views of Victoria Harbour hands down. Set across the 102nd to 118th floors, the hotel boasts 312 rooms, all of which benefit from its lofty location in Tsim Sha Tsui West, near the airport express station and Elements Mall.

The five-star hotel boasts a design that blends contemporary elegance with touches of Asia; think timeless marble, subtle Art Deco accents and soaring chandeliers paired with plush carpets, Chinese motifs and floor-to-ceiling glass.

So, it’s not for the faint-hearted?

Perhaps not at first, but every guest will quickly find those vistas of the harbour, the bustling city centre and the outlying islands undeniably fascinating – even enough to allay their fears. The high-speed elevator (80 seconds from the ground to the lobby on the 103rd floor) is equally exhilarating.

How about the rooms?

While entry-level rooms are still among the finest in the city, we suggest you splurge a little on a 73-sqm Deluxe Victoria Harbour Suite, so you can make the most of those stunning panoramas (the suite comes with its own telescope) while enjoying your window-side daybed. The suite also features a king-size bed, a cavernous bathroom with a bathtub and walk-in, an ample workspace and an indulgent living area where you can while away the afternoon while the city bustles far below.

Suites also offer access to the hotel’s sublime The Ritz-Carlton Club, an executive floor that’s home to a dedicated concierge, and five daily food presentations – including one of the best afternoon teas in town and elegant evening cocktails.

How about facilities?

You’ll want to make your way up to the hotel’s striking indoor pool and outdoor Jacuzzi, work up a sweat in the phenomenal fitness centre or book a treatment at the indulgent Ritz-Carlton Spa, located on the 113thfloor and home to 11 treatment suites – the 120-minute Unwind Mind & Body Experience pairs pearl antioxidants with a relaxing massage.

Have you eaten?

The hotel has built a reputation for its world-class dining scene and is home to two Michelin-starred Cantonese fine-dining restaurant Tin Lung Heen and one-starred Tosca di Angelo (above), as well as Ozone, the highest bar in the world, located on the 118th floor. Book ahead for one of the coveted terrace tables.

There’s also Café 103 for international buffets and The Lounge & Bar, a refined space for light meals, cocktails and live music.
